First European Youth Media Days
Published: Jun 26, 2007 - 07:16 PM
As the European Union faces the challenges of taking its next steps after 50 years of existence, the media producers of tomorrow seem already one step ahead. Young European citizens have been brought up with the idea of the European Union. Hence their need for cross-border journalism. As the European Union grows bigger and more powerful, the youth of today wants to open the view and make media more European, written and broadcasted in a way that speaks to them.
At the European Youth Media Days new media applications and cross-border reportages will be produced by young journalists with a passion for politics and media. A large number of top class politicians like the President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, and the Chairmen of the political groups in the European Parliament, and media representatives e.g. from Euronews, BBC, AP or ZDF will be debating simultaneously in front of a young audience in various panel discussions covering topics that are currently high on the European agenda.
The 270 participants of an average age of 23 years, coming from all EU-countries, were selected among a group of more than 2000 applicants who had send in their visions on future European media as TV- or audio streams, little articles or photo series.
We are looking forward to receiving you here. If you cannot participate in the whole 3-day event, you can also follow the event on the website www.youthmediadays.eu. The current homepage will be switched to a live ticker from Wednesday on. Reports from the workshops will be updated immediately.
